9th Annual Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) Course in Organic Land Care

February 21: Bulbs as Companion Plants Whether starting a new garden or adding to an existing one, Brent Heath teaches you how to combine bulbs, perennials, annuals, ground covers and flowering shrubs to create just the feeling you want for four seasons in your garden. (APLD CEUs: 1.5)

February 28: Moving Towards Native By integrating native plants into the designed landscape you help reduce negative impact on our environment. Sandra Clinton, of Clinton and Associates, discusses the how's and why's of integrating native plants into the designed landscape using examples from landscape architects on the forefront of this movement. March 21: Trees for All Seasons Sean Hogan opens our eyes to an unexplored world of foliar beauty from China and Japan to Australia and New Zealand. He is the co-founder of Cistus Nursery in Portland, Oregon, a nursery world-famous for its collection of rare plants and display gardens. Society of Garden Designers’ Spring Conference: Splash!

Details: Water in the landscape and garden affects the sense of place and our emotional response to it. There are many different ways of using water in the design of landscapes and gardens: as a light reflecting surface, for its sound effects, to bring cooling qualities, as a form of cleansing and as a sustainable part of a design. As an element of Garden design, water can have cultural significance as well as its own aesthetic. Water can add a sense of drama or induce a sense of calm and well-being - a truly versatile element.
