Fort Fun, an amusement center with miniature golf, go-karts, an arcade, Laser Tag, and a restaurant, is located in Fort Collins, Colorado. I was contacted by the owners who asked me to develop a landscape design for the center--an exciting opportunity, as I saw it, to design something amusing and different. My clients wanted the center to be colorful and exciting with lots of trees, shrubs and flowers. They wanted it to be different from any of the other amusement centers in the area, a center that would draw people to it.

Fort Fun is located on a piece of land on the east side of Fort Collins. The site required re-grading before construction could begin. A team of miniature golf course designers designed the golf course itself. It was my responsibility to design in the plants and other landscape features. We spent hours locating and purchasing old wagons, wagon wheels, driftwood, miniature houses, etc.

The most challenging part of this job for me was finding that the golf course had been installed quite differently from the original paper plan, resulting in my basically having to redesign the entire landscape, on site, with the plants that had been specified on my landscape plan. It all worked out but it was a challenge. My clients were and still are very happy with the results. The center is colorful in the growing season and looks great in the winter as well. This project is without question the most challenging and fun project of my landscape design career.
