Award of Distinction

In 1994, APLD® initiated its AWARD OF DISTINCTION. This award is presented to a landscape designer, whether or not they are a member of APLD®, to recognize that individual's contribution to the profession of landscape design.

Julie Moir Messervy of Wellesley, MA was presented with the Award of Distinction at the 2006 annual conference of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers® (APLD). President Judy DePue, APLD, presented the award to Messervy on behalf of the organization. With three decades of experience, four books (including “Outside the Not So Big House: Creating the Landscape of Home”) and numerous high-profile lectures, she has contributed greatly to the profession of landscape design. Messervy is a regular contributor to Fine Gardening magazine with a column, "Inspired Design." Her design work and books have also been featured in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Japan Times, Washington Post, Elle Décor, Vogue, Garden Design, Delta Sky Magazine, Organic Gardening, Landscape Architecture, The Christian Science Monitor and numerous other leading newspapers and magazines around the world.

Additionally, her imaginative landscape design work includes the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Fidelity Investments, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Franklin Park Conservatory and numerous residential clients. Her influence has assisted in the education of not just designers, but consumers as well.

Messervy graciously accepted the award and thanked APLD for the honor. “I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting each of you, as well as having the honor to speak at your conference and be presented the Award of Distinction,” said Messervy.
